Asphalt shingles are the most common residential roof covering across Arkansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma – not to mention the entire USA. As much as 80% of all homes in the country have asphalt shingles, but that doesn’t mean just anyone can install and maintain them for you.

Foster Roofing has been the premier asphalt shingles specialist for the Northwest Arkansas and River Valley areas since 1994. Our unparalleled expertise and years of experience mean you can trust that your shingle roof will perform as intended for its lifespan.

Two Types of Asphalt Shingles

All asphalt shingles are coated with a layer of mineral granules that protect the shingle from sunlight, add color, and, in some cases, help resist algae and fungus growth. Manufacturers are able to discourage unwanted plant life by adding copper or zinc to the granule mix.

You'll hear traditional asphalt shingles referred to as "three-tab". This is because they come in a strip with notches that create what appears to be three separate shingles. Three-tab shingles are the more economical shingle option, but often require more maintenance and have a shorter life cycle.

Premium asphalt shingle products are called "architectural" or "dimensional" shingles. These thicker, often laminated shingles cast shadow lines like a thick wood shake. As you can see in the picture, the result is a rich, textured appearance rather than the traditional flat surface of standard three-tab shingles. Architectural shingles are the more expensive option, but will have a longer lifespan, a better warranty, and will help increase your property values.
